What 70 Years Represents
A legacy of leadership
-
Founded in 1955, Building Industry Association of Hawaiʻi has represented residential builders and industry professionals for seven decades, advocating for housing policies that affect how homes are built across the islands.

As Hawaiʻi’s local affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders, BIA Hawaiʻi connects local housing issues to national conversations while ensuring Hawaiʻi’s unique challenges are represented.
-
Over the years, BIA Hawaiʻi has played a consistent role in legislative advocacy related to permitting, workforce development, and housing affordability, helping shape today’s building environment.
A commitment to education and workforce development
-
In 2005, BIA Hawaiʻi helped establish the Construction Training Center of the Pacific, creating a dedicated pipeline for training Hawaiʻi’s construction workforce.
-
Through programs such as the Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) program, BIA Hawaiʻi supports hands-on education that prepares participants for careers in the building trades.

BIA Hawaiʻi has also supported workforce initiatives tied to the state’s Employment and Training Fund, helping expand access to construction education and job pathways statewide.
A connection to the community
-
BIA Hawaiʻi’s public outreach includes long-running consumer events such as the BIA Hawaiʻi BIG Home & Remodeling Show, which connects local homeowners with licensed, vetted industry professionals.
-
In response to community needs, including post-disaster recovery efforts, BIA Hawaiʻi has mobilized industry support and fundraising to assist impacted residents and rebuilding efforts.
-
Through education, events, and partnerships, BIA Hawaiʻi continues to serve as a bridge between the building industry and the communities it supports.
A foundation for the future
-
BIA Hawaiʻi helps position Hawaiʻi’s housing priorities within broader policy conversations through participation in Hawaiʻi on the Hill, where local industry perspectives are shared with national decision-makers.
-
Through its affiliation with the National Association of Home Builders, BIA Hawaiʻi connects island-specific housing challenges to national research, data, and policy discussions.
-
These efforts support long-term readiness by ensuring Hawaiʻi’s residential building industry remains informed, represented, and engaged as housing needs and regulations evolve.
