This presentation aims to share important information regarding an impending FEMA Flood Insurance Map (FIRM) update for the City and County of Honolulu which is slated to become effective June, 2026.  The updated FIRMs represent a 5+ year effort between the City and County of Honolulu and FEMA in analyzing the flood risk along 22 streams through Oahu.  The City estimates approximately 3500+ properties will be mapped into a high risk flood zone (Special Flood Hazard Area) which could trigger mandatory flood insurance purchase requirements and/or compliance with floodplain management development standards.

FEMA's 50% Rule states that if a structure/home in a SFHA has damage or is improved to a value that is 50% or more of its market value (excluding land value), it must be brought into compliance with current floodplain management regulations.
