  • In 2004, the non-profit workforce development arm of the Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA-Hawaii), the Hawaii Building Industry Foundation (HBIF), was founded with the goal of creating the Construction Training Center of the Pacific (CTC).

Thanks to the leadership of the HBIF Board, and the generosity of BIA's membership, a beautiful building stands today in Waipahu’s Mill Town Center, providing both the home for the BIA and the CTC, from which thousands of training hours have already been provided.

Recently, HBIF partnered with the Takitani Foundation to create a scholarship fund for students, both young and not so young, looking to enter the construction field. The Takitani Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to helping Hawaii’s youth achieve their educational and career goals by providing scholarships and other educational opportunities. The Foundation – endowed by Mamoru and Aiko Takitani – the founders of Hawaiian Host - also supports local programs that create innovative change in education.

The Takitani Foundation has agreed to match funds raised by HBIF up to $50,000. With this grant, we have the potential to build a $100,000 Scholarship Fund to pay for the education of students in BIA’s Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) program classes. The Foundation has also stated their preference is to see smaller donations from the entire membership rather than a few, larger donations. And this is where we need your help.

We are respectfully asking each BIA member to make a donation to HBIF towards the Takitani Foundation matching grant. If EVERY BIA member donated $142.00, we would reach our $50,000 goal. We know that for some members this may be more than they can afford, while others could donate ten times that amount. However, please help us reach our goal by contributing what you can to this exciting opportunity. Remember, this donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

September 30, 2017, is the deadline to raise these funds. We hope we can count on your support, not for us, but for the next generation of our construction industry. Thank you for your consideration and again for your support of the future of the building industry.
