This BIA training will provide participants with interpersonal skills applicable to the construction workforce, including working with and trusting fellow coworkers. There will be guest speakers from different trades to share the pros and cons of working in the industry, technology to enhance visual learning, and project-based learning. Participants will experience a hard hat tour. They will learn about the different construction phases of a residential subdivision that is currently under development. The Green PACT curriculum consists of four pre-apprentice Green Building Fundamental Courses which were developed with input from the industry. The curriculum components are: (1) OSHA safety & health standards, (2) basic construction knowledge & skills, (3) first aid & adult CPR and (4) fundamentals of green building.
2nd COHORT (8 Students)
The training is composed of the following courses over a 6 week module:
Week 1: Orientation, CPR/First Aid/AED Training, & Basic Principles in Math
Week 2: OSHA 30, Basic Principles in Math
Week 3: Basic Principles in Math/Print & Facilities
Week 4: Basic Principles in Math/Print, Facilities, & Green Building Fundamentals
Week 5: Basic Principles Review, Facilities, Job Readiness, Site Tour
Week 6: Facilities, Job Readiness, & Green Building Fundamentals
This training will prepare participants for entry level positions in a construction-related apprenticeship or employment such as carpenter, electrician, equipment operator, and plumber which may lead to other career pathway positions such as architect, engineer and construction site supervisor.
