Project Statement

Deriving its name from the pa`akai (Hawaiian for “salt”) ponds that dotted the former wetlands, SALT at Our Kaka`ako is the result of blending the ambiance of that era with the modern and vibrant urban core toward which Kaka`ako is evolving. Original roofing and existing structures and appurtenances were used whenever possible, offering tenants and visitors a tangible and visual piece of Kaka`ako history. The use of various facades such as clay brick and mortar, rough-faced wood panels, corrugated steel, and color schemes blending what’s old and what’s trendy all give SALT a character all its own.
