NAHB Recognizes Leaders in Residential Construction Safety

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 22--The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) named 18 winners of the annual NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) for their commitment to strong safety programs. The winners were recognized last night at the SAFE awards ceremony held during the NAHB International Builders' Show in Las Vegas.

The NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) recognizes member companies, workers and other individuals for the excellent safety programs that make them leaders in the residential construction industry.

"We are proud to recognize the winners of this year's SAFE awards for being leaders in the industry and demonstrating a superior commitment to safe work practices," said NAHB Construction, Safety and Health Committee Chairman, Carl Harris, a residential and light-commercial contractor from Wichita, Kan. "Safety on the jobsite is a top priority, and it is great to see not only building industry professionals, but also government officials as well as high school and college students making a difference in advancing safe work practices and creating strong safety programs."

This year, the SAFE program honored the following individuals and companies that have worked to achieve exemplary safety and health programs in the residential construction industry.

NAHB Safety Professional of the Year: Dan Johnson, Managing Partner, SFI Compliance

Remodeler Safety Program of the Year - More than 50 employees: Roeser Home Remodeling

Single-Family Builders Safety Program of the Year:
Alan Shintani, Inc. (Less than 10 homes built per year)
Cobb Hill Construction, Inc. (11 to 100 homes built per year)
Summit Custom Homes LLC (Greater than 100 but less than 500 homes built per year)

Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year - Less than 50 employees: Astar Abatement & Insulation, Inc.

Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year - More than 50 employees: Comer Construction, Inc.

Multifamily Safety Program of the Year - Less than 50 Employees: Gerding Builders, LLC

Multifamily Safety Program of the Year - More than 50 Employees: Balfour Beatty Construction

NAHB Student Chapter Safety Program of the Year - Apprenticeship: St. Louis Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Program

NAHB Student Chapter Safety Program of the Year - Colleges/Universities: Riverland Community College
