Pre-Apprenticeship Carpentry Instructor

Job Summary


Schedule: days or evenings, & Saturdays

Salary:
Open, on-call employee, competitive compensation, continuation based on performance and funding

Part-Time On-Call (Evenings and Saturdays) Experienced

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct program participants using Home Builders Institute (HBI)-approved curriculum, and develop supporting training materials, as needed.
  • Coordinate and oversee hands-on training activities and maintenance activities at the center emphasizing proper tool and equipment use and storage, safety, and standard landscaping practices. 
  • Monitor and coach trainees. 
  • Assist with job placement after completion of the program. 
  • Perform administrative and reporting tasks, as required.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have at least five years experience as a journeyman carpenter combined with either a current vocational teaching certification or the ability to obtain one or approved and authorized by the CTC Instructor Training Certification program

You should also be flexible and creative in your approach to training; be able to use your coaching and counseling skills in your interactions with students; and be able to multi-task with the ability to complete the administrative tasks associated with the position, as well as develop relationships with center staff and community agencies. You should also have experience working with diverse and "at-risk" student populations, and possess excellent written and oral communications skills.

Experience and Education

Combination of construction field experience with instructional experience working with adult learners.

Additional Requirements

  • Current Hawai‘i State Driver’s License
  • Alcohol and drug free
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
