Course background

Learn the management skills that give industry leader the edge. This course will give you a solid foundation in those best business practices so valuable to smaller businesses: planning, organizing, staffing/directing and controlling. By using case studies and sample forms, your instructors give you practical and applicable tools for management success. As a graduate of this course you will be able to:

  • Discuss common business challenges and learn practical tips and tools to overcome them
  • Explain the three basic functional areas withing a company
  • List the five main tools used to improve a business
  • Apply each of the five Ps to the three functional areas of the business
  • Identify methods of recruiting, interviewing, training, and retaining quality personnel
  • Apply the key measures of business performance to your own business

*Funding available through the Employment & Training Fund (ETF). This course qualifies for partial funding through the Employment & Training Fund (ETF) for businesses and self-employed. ETF will cover 50% of the Non-Member price for the course, up to a maximum of $250 per course. Registrants must complete an ETF application form and submit to ETF no later than 2 weeks prior to the first day of the course.



About the Presenter

Michael Strong, member of the Pankow Blue Net Zero Energy Team in the San Francisco Bay Area, is building a NZE Charter School in Oakland, CA. Past President of Brothers Strong, Inc. a nationally recognized residential remodeling firm and GreenHaus Builders, builder of LEED Homes, Michael is enjoying his transition from residential to commercial construction and the wealth of knowledge he is learning along the way. Michael’s  companies have received many recognitions and awards, however, Michael is most proud that Brothers Strong was named "One of the 101 Best Companies to Work for in the Residential Construction Industry" by Cahners Publications in 2002 and 2003 and the NAHB Green Building Advocate of the Year in 2008. Michael has served on the H.U.D. Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing committee since 2001. He is active in his state and local builders associations as well as the NAHB. He has an MBA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA; an MA from Southwest Texas State University; and a BA from the University of Texas in Austin.
